Graphic design is work where an artist works to change our environment one picture, one magazine ad, one billboard at a time. Whatever a graphic designer ends up designing, he has to defend and prove as effective in minute detail. That can quite take the fun out of playing around with Photoshop.

A graphic designer is qualified in the arts. A college degree in drawing, painting, and animation will generally qualify. Most public universities offer bachelor’s degrees in these streams. Design schools exist though that train students specifically for graphic design jobs. Colleges like the Academy of Art University and Westwood College do this.

Once armed with the right kind of degree, design jobs are available in every small and large town in the country. However, Madison Avenue is in New York. Most jobs in graphic design exist in the larger advertising centers. It’s also possible to find graphic design jobs with the government. Success working as a graphic designer comes from being extremely creative, but not being thin-skinned when it comes to being criticized.
